balog2-200x300The Hungarian Society of Child Neurology held its 43rd scientific meeting between 4th and 6th April 2019 in Lillafüred. Major topics of the conference included neurological rehabilitation. The András Pető Faculty was represented by Dr. Erzsébet Balogh, retired Assistant Director for Science and Medicine and Head of Department at the former Pető Institute who delivered presentations. In recognition of her work she was awarded the József Szénásy Commemorative Medal in the conference.

In the conference which had great professional interest, Dr Balogh presented the possibilities of neurorhabilitation according to Pető and specificities of conductive pedagogy in athetoid cerebral palsy.
In the event Dr. Attila Szabó, Vice Rector of Semmelweis University and Frigyesné Farkasvölgyi, Director of Medicina Publishing House presented a new book entitled Child Neurology edited by Dr. Katalin Hollódy.
Professor József Szénásy set up the first department of paediatric neurosurgery in Hungary, played a pioneering role in training and care and in establishing the diagnosis and aftercare of neurosurgical diseases. Respecting his outstanding professional and human personality, the prestigious recognition, given by the management of the Hungarian Society of Child Neurology, is awarded annually to neurologists, neurosurgeons and psychiatrists who have achieved outstanding results in paediatric neurology or related organisational activities.

Dr. Erzsébet Balogh worked for two decades at the Department of Child Neurology at the Pál Heim Hospital, and another twenty years at the András Pető Institute of Conductive Education for the Motor Disabled and Conductor Training College as head of department and assistant director. During her retirement years, she continues as an active and committed honorary professional with the Faculty and as the Honorary President of the International Pető Association.
